At that time, black people in U.S were slaves. They were not really respected. Their right to speak was curbed. As a result, they created music to express what they were feeling during that   time. This genre of music is called blues. Blues was taken from blue which closely related to sadness and melancholy. It is because at that time, black people were treated bad. Vionlence was often granted to them. By singing and playing music, black people can easily release what they had been feeling.  Therefore, the lyrics in blues tends to contain anger, loneliness, and dudgeon.

The term of blues was officially used in 1910. Around 19th century this kind of music developed widely. Then, in 20th century, the white began to be interested in Blues.
