Alay Music in Indonesia

Today, there are many Indonesia music which contain lilting lyrics and arrangement with mediocre language lyrics. People call it with Alay Music. Usually the listeners of alay music are teenagers with labile and wishy-washy characters, and also they tend to make themselves in confusion or Indonesian people like to call it galau. Here are some examples of alay band with alay song:

Beside of alay band with alay music, in Indonesia there are also some alay music programs that are aired everyday in the morning. One of those music program is Dahsyat on RCTI.

If we often watch Dahsyat we will realize that some of the spectators behind the hosts are familiar to us. Those familiar faces are paid spectators who have an agent. They asked to make the program become 'interesting' to watch with move their hands up and downs like they are washing clothes. They also have an agent who coordinate them to do everything to jazz the program up. I assumed that the spectators are teenagers who should go to school or campus in the morning. Instead of go to school or campus, they dance or do awkward movement to jazz the program up, but they are low paid. Are they not feel ashamed?

WHY MUSIC MAKES US ADDICTED?

Music has been part of our life. We can not stand without music. Even, music makes us addicted. When I read an article in the intrenet, then I know that music helps our brain to release dopamine (feeling good neurochemical that makes you motivated and addicted).

A study conducted by researchers at McGill University in Canada (2011). An initial 217 participants were narrowed down to 8 who consistently responded the same way when listening to music, regardless of the listening environment. By using combination of PET (Positrin Emission Tomography) and Fmri (functional Magnetic Resonance Imagining) techniques to scan brains of the participants as they  lisetened to music during the course of three sessions. It showed the researchers that the participants release dopamine. “It is amazing that we can release dopamine in anticipation of something abstract, complex, and not concrete” said Valorie Salimpoor, a neuoroscientist at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. Dopamine so far only released when people consume delicious food, drugs and do sex.

Therefore, when we listen to music, we will feel happy and chill. These sensation lead us to keep listening music over and over again. Not truly different with coffee and tea, music is also a caffeine. :)
